( Fig. 6 View FIGURE 6 )

Alpheus savuensis De Man 1908: 110 View in CoL ; De Man 1911: 392, (1915) pl. 20, fig. 90; Banner & Banner 1966a: 180; Miya 1984: 97; Banner & Banner 1985: 31; Jeng & Chang, 1985: 247, figs. 18, 19; Jeng, 1997: 13, 28, fig. 23; Hayashi 1998: 216, figs. 348g, n, 350g, 351g.

Crangon sauvensis (lap. cal.).— Banner 1953: 132 (table).

Material examined. Indonesia. 1 male, 1 ov. female ( OUMNH.ZC. 2014-10-03), western Lombok, Sira, seagrass flat with some muddy areas, burrow, suction pump and digging/sieving, 0.2–0.5 m, leg. D.L. Rahayu et al., 13 May 2014 [LB-St4-18]; 1 ov. female ( MZB Cru 4038), western Lombok, Teluk Medana, seagrass flat with sand, mud, some rubble-gravel, burrow, suction pump and digging/sieving, 0.2–0.7 m, 12 May 2014 [LB-St3-20]; 1 male, 1 ov. female ( RMNH. CRUS.D.56735), southern Lombok, Teluk Sekotong, seagrass flat, burrow, suction pump and digging/sieving, 0.2–0.5 m, leg. D.L. Rahayu et al., 14 May 2014 [LBSt6-23].

Taxonomic account. See De Man (1908, 1911).

Habitat. Sand flats proximal to coral reefs, sometimes with abundant seagrass and/or coral rubble. Depth range: about 0.5– 5 m.

Distribution. Indo-West Pacific: southern Japan, Taiwan, Philippines, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Micronesia, Samoa ( Banner & Banner 1985; present study; A. Anker, pers. obs.).

Remarks. Alpheus savuensis is relatively widespread but rarely collected snapping shrimp, mainly due to its burrowing life style and relatively low population densities (compared to other burrowing species of Alpheus ). The species was previously known from Indonesia (e.g., Makassar Strait, De Man 1911) and is herewith reported for the first time from Lombok. The colour pattern of the Lombok specimens ( Fig. 6 View FIGURE 6 ) corresponds well to that of the Taiwanese specimens in Jeng & Chang (1985) and Jeng (1997).
