Patellapis (Chaetalictus) turneri sp. n. Timmermann

Diagnosis. The male is similar to those of P. vumbensis , P. natalensis and P. africana in having several (up to 20) erect bristles on the posterior margin of S4 and a hairy, dorso-lateral projection on the gonostylus. P. turneri is characterised by a row of 10 erect bristles, a short haired, dorso-lateral projection on the gonostylus and a polished and (at most) finely reticulate scutum. The female is unknown.
Description
Female. Unknown.
Male. Bl = 4,5mm. General habitus ( Fig. 89e View FIGURE 89 ). Head. L = 1,4mm; W = 1,5mm. Head about as wide as long ( Fig. 89a View FIGURE 89 ). Integument black except mandibles and malar area partly reddish-brown. Clypeus, supraclypeal area, paraocular area and vertex covered with erect, greyish hairs. Mandibles simple. Antennae reddish-brown. Flagellomeres of normal structure (not knotty). A4 as long as A3. Mesosoma. L = 0,9mm; W (ITS) = 0,9mm. Integument black. Scutum polished; sparsely punctate (i = 3,0–4,0d); surface finely reticulate. Scutellum as illustrated in Fig. 89b View FIGURE 89 . Scutum, scutellum, metanotum, mesepisternum and propodeum with greyish, erect hairs. Pronotal lobe reddish. Basal area of propodeum as illustrated in Fig. 89b View FIGURE 89 ; propodeum and marginal region of posterior truncation slightly shiny; completely reticulate. Wings. Hyaline. Legs. Integument reddish-brown. Vestiture greyish. Metasoma. L = 2,3mm; W = 1,3mm. Integument brownishblack except the margins of T pallid brown; margins of T broadly translucent ( Fig. 89c View FIGURE 89 ). Apical plate broad; rounded apically. Posterior margin of S4 with a sparse row of 8 strong, curled, erect bristles; lateral bristles enlarged. Metasomal sterna S5–S6 without dense hair patches ( Fig. 89d View FIGURE 89 ). Genitalia. Genitalia as illustrated in Fig. 89f View FIGURE 89 ; gonocoxa extensively dull; gonostylus with dorso-lateral, long and slender, hyaline projection; projection with a sparse row of short hairs apically.
Type material ( 1 specimen). Holotype, male, Free State, Van Reenen , 01.–22.i.1927, leg. R. E. Turner, Brit. Mus. 1927–54, BMNH.
Etymology. This species is dedicated to R.E. Turner, who collected the only known specimen.
Distribution ( Fig. 93 View FIGURE 93 ). Only known from Van Reenen (Free State).
