Transactions of the Cambridge Philosophical Society 12: 268 (1873). — Lectotype (here designated): Boivin 2538 (P! [P00573722]; iso-, P! [P00573721, P00573723]). As here circumscribed, Diospyros pruinosa Hiern excludes D. pruinosa Hiern var. geayana H.Perrier , which is considered to represent a distinct species for which the new combination is proposed above. Boivin 2538 is here chosen as the lectotype of D. pruinosa Hiern instead of the other syntype (Vesco s.n., 1850 [incorrectly cited as Vesco 1850 in the protologue]) because it possesses better preserved material with more mature fruit.
