Mitjaevia protuberanta View in CoL Song, Li & Xiong sp. nov.

( Figs. 1–10 View FIGURES 1 – 10 )

Head ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 10 ) narrower than pronotum. Crown ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 10 ) fore margin little produced medially. Vertex ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 10 ) yellow, with pair of small black apical spots and with two irregular markings at sides of coronal suture. Coronal suture ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 10 ) short, not extending beyond foreangle of eyes. Eyes greyish black. Pronotum yellow, with black or blackish brown patches as in Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 10 . Scutellum ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 10 ) yellow; basal triangles black; transverse impression distinct. A brownish black stripe extended from transverse impression to apex of scutellum, Y-shaped. Forewing ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1 – 10 ) brownish, with whitish or milky white large patches; brochsome field milky white.

Abdominal apodemes ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1 – 10 ) small, not exceeding hind margin of 3rd sternite.

Male genitalia: Pygofer lobe ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1 – 10 ) broad, with sparse fine setae on lateral surface. Pygofer ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1 – 10 ) with numerous microtrichia near caudal part. Pygofer ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1 – 10 ) dorsal appendage weakly expanded, tapering towards to apex and ventral appendage shorter, not extended beyond hind margin of pygofer. Subgenital plate ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 1 – 10 ) with three macrosetae on lateral surface and with several short, rigid setae along upper margin. Style ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 1 – 10 ) apex in ventral view truncate and expanded; 2nd extension ( Figs. 6, 7 View FIGURES 1 – 10 ) long; preapical lobe large. Aedeagal shaft ( Figs. 8, 9 View FIGURES 1 – 10 ) shorter than length of preatrium, with two pairs of processes, one pair arising from base of shaft and another pair small and short, near apex of shaft. Aedeagus dorsal apodeme ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 1 – 10 ) prominent, which length about as long as shaft. Connective ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 1 – 10 ) arms strong; median anterior lobe well developed, somewhere, sclerotized.

Specimens examined. Holotype, male, Bailidujuan, Qianxi County, Guizhou Province, China, 1500–1700 m, 15–17 July 2007, coll. Qiongzhang Song. Paratypes: six males, five females, same data as holotype.

Measurement. Body length males 3.1–3.2 mm, females 3.0–3.2 mm.

Remarks. The new species is similar to M. aurantiaca ( Mitjaev, 1969) , but can be distinguished from the latter by the aedaegal shaft with pair of small lamellate-like processes subapically; the gonopore apical; the style 2nd extension very long.

Etymology. The specific name is derived from the Latin word “ protuberanta ” (projecting, protrudent), referring to the aedeagal shaft with pair of small processes, triangular.
