Bonvouloiriella Otto and Kovalev , new name

Tachycnemis Bonvouloir, 1871 , junior homonym of Tachycnemis Fitzinger, 1843 .

Type Species. Tachycnemis nigra Bonvouloir, 1871 by subsequent designation.

Etymology. The genus name is dedicated to Henri de Bonvouloir, who published an ambitious monograph covering world-wide Eucnemidae from 1871–1875, which serves as an important resource for anyone conducting research on Eucnemidae . Gender is feminine.

Species Account and Distribution. One species known from South America.

Remarks. Bonvouloir (1871) described the South American beetle genus Tachycnemis with the type species Tachycnemis nigra by subsequent designation. Unfortunately, the generic name is preoccupied by Fitzinger (1843), who named an amphibian genus Tachycnemis (Chordata: Amphibia: Anura : Hyperoliidae ) for the type species Eucnemis seychellensis (Dumeril and Bibron, 1841) distributed in Seychelles. The eucnemid genus Tachycnemis Bonvouloir, 1871 is invalid under the rule of homonymy, being a junior homonym of Tachycnemis Fitzinger, 1843 . Under Article 60 of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN 1999), the name must be rejected and replaced. Therefore, we propose to substitute the junior homonym Tachycnemis Bonvouloir, 1871 with Bonvouloiriella new name. Removal of the species from Tachycnemis results in a new combination and hereby proposed, Bonvouloiriella nigra (Bonvouloir, 1871) , new combination.
