Type Locality: Kenya, Tana River, Merifano (32 km from mouth of Tana River).
Vernacular Names: MacArthur's Shrew.
Distribution: Savanna plains of Kenya and Somalia.
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: The species has been recorded from Somalia as smithi (e.g., Heim de Balsac, 1966 a); see Hutterer (1986 a).
