Diagnosis. Female clypeus with a narrow apical margin; labial palpus with four segments; male mandible with a notch between the basal and preapical teeth (subgenus Pseudepipona s. str.) or without such a notch (subgenus Deuterepipona Blüthgen, 1951 ); male antenna hooked apically; female vertex with close and often partially fused foveae; anterior face of the pronotum without distinct foveae; pretegular carina present; tegula broad, without deep large punctures, protruding posteriorly and equaling parategula; second submarginal cell of the forewing with acute basal angle; axillary fossa relatively broad and circular, not slit-like; propodeum with complete dorsal carina; propodeal valvula completely fused to the propodeum; submarginal carina not produced in a lobe above the valvula; propodeal orifice broadly rounded dorsally; T1 not petiolate, somewhat narrower than T2, without a transverse carina; both T1 and T2 without an apical lamella (Fateryga 2022; Fateryga & Proshchalykin 2022).
Subgenera and species included. The subgenus Deuterepipona includes 12 currently recognized species ( Fateryga & Proshchalykin 2022) and the subgenus Pseudepipona s. str. includes 33 species ( van der Vecht & Fischer 1972; Carpenter et al. 2010; Kim 2020; Bai et al. 2021; Fateryga 2022; present data).
