Ecological interactions

Conservation status

Least Concern for European assessment ( Hochkirch et al. 2016).

Distribution

Widely distributed from Europe to Afghanistan ( Massa et al. 2012). In Italy, it is widespread over the whole country (Sicily and Sardinia included), but especially in the northern part ( Iorio et al. 2019, Massa et al. 2012). It should be typical of the Po Plain ( Massa et al. 2012).

Notes

It lives in all kinds of dry open, often rocky habitats, with sparse vegetation. They can build up high population densities and it is one of the most harmful species to agriculture in Italy ( Massa et al. 2012).
