Type Locality: Indonesia, C Sulawesi, Gunung Lehio , above 6000 ft (1830 m).
Vernacular Names: Sulawesi Soft-furred Rat.
Distribution: C Sulawesi; known only by small samples from a few places in montane tropical rainforest formations ( Musser, 1970 d; Musser and Holden, 1991), 1800-2300 m; probably occurs throughout central core of the island in montane forest habitats.
Conservation: IUCN – Endangered.
Discussion: Monotypic. Nearly indistinguishable from Lenomys meyeri in fur coloration and texture, tail color pattern, length of fur covering over base of tail, cranial conformation, and spermatozoal configuration, but differs sharply in molar occlusal patterns ( Musser, 1981 c).
