Type material

Holotype ♂ ( NMW): ‘INDON.:C-Sulawesi 45 km SE Palu 01°11′ S, 120°08′ E leg. Haft (7) 1994 \ Lore Lindu NP Umg. Kamarora 700–900 m 19.- 29.12.1994 ’ terminal parts of abdomen and aedeagus glued separately, two tarsi lacking GoogleMaps . Additional material 4 ♀♀ (2 mutilated) ( NMW): ‘INDON .:C-Sulawesi Umg. Pendolo, 53,9 km SSE Tentena 1340 m \ 02°14′ S, 120°46′ E 17.1.1995 leg . Haft (17) ’.

Diagnostic description

Body 1.40–1.48 mm long, 2.1–2.3 times as long as wide ( BL / EW), EW: 0.62–0.68 mm.

Colouration Figure 1 View Figure 1 (d). All specimens entirely slightly paler as those of previous species and more dark brown than black.

Head. HW: 0.36–0.37 mm, ID: 0.19–0.20 mm, frontoclypeal suture indistinct, antennae as long as head width.

Thorax. Pronotum widest at about posterior 0.3; PL: 0.40–0.42 mm, MW: 0.44–0.47 mm; surface anteriorly of transverse groove slightly vaulted, posteriorly distinctly vaulted; posterolateral oblique grooves rather shallow; posterior margin trisinuate. Elytra: EL: 0.97–1.08 mm, EW: 0.62–0.68 mm, 1.5–1.6 times as long as wide. Mesoventrite similar as in previous species, with broad longitudinal impression; glabrous longitudinal impression of metaventrite broad.

Abdomen. Ventrites 1–5 without extended glabrous portions, smoother mesally. Male sternite IX 420 μm long; apical portion broad, apical margin distinctly concave, without setae ( Figure 9 View Figure 9 (a)); paraprocts moderately long, unequal in length, not reaching apical margin; anterior strut long, evenly tapering.

Aedeagus ( Figure 9 View Figure 9 (b)) slightly mutilated in the holotype, 480 µm long. Median lobe long and conical (105 µm wide basally, 70 µm wide at middle); lateral margins slightly concave, apical fifth evenly tapering towards apex; ventral sac inconspicuous, slender, plicate, reaching apical 0.12; fibula weakly sclerotized, broad; corona inconspicuous. Phallobase asymmetrical, moderately sclerotized; basolateral apophyses subequally long. Parameres long, tapering, subequal in size, slightly bent ventrad near apex, with less than 15 short setae at apical fourth.

Ovipositor ( Figure 9 View Figure 9 (c)), total length 505 µm. Stylus long, slightly bent, subcylindrincal, apex with large peg-like and hair-like setae. Coxite long and slender, with peg-like setae at distal portion and spine-like setae at basal portion; mesal portion moderately densely pubescent; basal portion less than half as long as distal portion. Valvifer about 1.2 times as long as coxite.

Distribution

So far known from two localities in Central Sulawesi ( Figure 18 View Figure 18 ).

Etymology

The species is named for Jan Haft, outstanding German nature documentarian.

Comments

The species externally resembles most Ancyronyx tobada and A. toraja , but it may be distinctly discriminated from the latter by the anterior elytral patches being undivided, the median lobe being gradually narrowed towards the apex and by the parameres with moderately long setae only.

The collection sites of Ancyronyx hafti are situated at altitudes of 700–1300 m a.s.l. The microhabitat is unknown.
