Distribution: Albania, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britian, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Moldova, Morocco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia and Montenegro, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine.

Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).

Discussion: Reviewed by Heptner et al. (1967). Probable ancestor of the domestic ferret, M. p. furo ( Rempe, 1970; Volobuev et al., 1974). Youngman (1982) and Abramov (1999) placed it in the subgenus Putorius . Pocock (1936 b) and Ellerman and Morrison-Scott (1966) considered eversmanii and putorius conspecific; however, Ognev (1931), Stroganov (1962), and Heptner et al. (1967), recognized them as distinct species. Synonyms allocated according to Heptner et al. (1967).
