Body length 28.3–51.2 mm (♂); 24.3 mm (♀).
Description. Major male. Body reddish to brownish, head, including mandibles, 1.35× width of pronotum and elytra. Head covered with vestiture of short, yellowish-amber setae; brownish to reddish; mandibles weakly incurved along basal 1/3, straight at midlength and then strongly incurved at apical 1/4; major inner mandibular tooth located 2/3 from apex, sharp, triangular protruding forward and inflated on both sides, two small inner mandibular teeth located below major inner mandibular tooth, 4–5 poorly defined, minor inner mandibular teeth located on midlength of basal mandible; four small inner mandibular teeth distributed between major tooth and apical fork; apical mandibular forks distinctly developed, opened anteriorly, upper branches of apical fork 0.9× length of lower apical fork branches; lateral ridges of head rounded, but more angled at posterolateral corners; clypeolabrum weakly developed, trapezoidal, labrum weakly single-pointed at middle. Pronotum reddish to brownish, always concolorous with head; straight at apex and basal 1/3, weakly rounded at middle; 0.4–0.5× width of head and mandibles; prothoracic tibiae yellowish-amber, each bearing five spines from apex to base; mesothoracic tibiae yellowish-amber, each bearing two poorly developed spines; metathoracic tibiae yellowish-amber, smooth and without spines; but sometimes a single, weakly, single-pointed structure. Elytra reddish to brownish, color usually little brighter than head and pronotum; oval, widest at apical 1/4, strongly narrowed basally. Median male as major male except: head with major inner mandibular tooth somewhat triangular, weakly inflated on both sides;>4, poorly developed minor inner mandibular teeth located on midlength of basal mandible, and>4 small inner mandibular teeth distributed between major tooth and apical fork. Minor male as major and median males except: head with major inner mandibular tooth weakly developed, single-pointed and not triangular; <2 small inner mandibular teeth located below major inner mandibular tooth;>3 poorly developed, minor inner mandibular teeth located along midlength of basal mandible;>2 small inner mandibular teeth distributed between major tooth and apical fork; upper branches 1.3× of apical lower branches. Genitalia. Ventral plate of 9th abdominal segment widened behind cephalic base before caudal inflation; basal piece poorly defined and stout, 0.4× length of entire aedeagus; apical flagellum enlarged, flagellum 1.2× length of entire aedeagus; aedeagus slender, incurved at basal 1/3, stout at posterolateral corner.
Female. Body covered with vestiture of small and short, yellowish-amber setae, body brownish to reddish, oval, usually smaller than major, median, and minor males. Head reddish to brownish; dorsal surface punctate; mandibles incurved along midlength; mandibular tooth clearly developed, asymmetrical; right mandibular tooth triangular, that of left mandibular smooth; preocular and postocular margins weakly developed, not forming acute angle, or protruding apically; clypeolabrum weakly developed, triangular, single-pointed at middle. Pronotum reddish to brownish; obscurely punctate; prothoracic tibiae reddish, usually a little brighter than, or concolorous with pronotum, bearing four spines from apex to midlength; distal two spines strongly developed; prothoracic tibiae1.3–1.4× width of mesothoracic and metathoracic tibiae; mesothoracic tibiae brownish, bearing two spines at midlength; metathoracic tibiae reddish or brownish, each bearing a single spine at basal 1/3. Elytra brownish to reddish; impunctate, usually concolorous with head and pronotum; oval, widest at apical 1/3, strongly narrow at basal 1/3.
Distribution. China (Zhejiang, Fujian, Hunan, Jiangxi, Chongqing, Guizhou, Guangxi) (Huang & Chen, 2010).
Records. Specimens of Schenk’s type series were purchased from a local vendor, labeled as “Guangzhi, Wuyishan”. Huang and Chen (2010) believed that “Guangzhi” refers to the Guangze County in the Wuyi-shan Mountains , northern Fujian. In this study, the collecting locality for L. wuyishanensis is possibly near Huang-Guang Mountain which belongs to the Wuyi-Shan Mountain Ranges .
Phenology. Adult specimens of L. wuyishanensis were collected from mid-May to mid-June.
Natural history. Typical host plants of L. wuyishanensis are Cyclobalanopsis glauca , height less than 5 m. Adult longevity is 15–20 days. L. wuyishanensis is highly attracted to light, with 20 of 25 male specimens from Hunan labeled as “light-trap collecting”. According to collecting information, males tend to be more sensitive to the light than females.
Collecting methods. Light-trap and hand collected.
