Material examined. Holotype male labelled: Brasil (pr) // F.Sahlb. (hw) // pallipes Stål (hw) // Typus (pr, red label, framed black) // Naturhistoriska / Riksmuseet / Stockholm / Loan no 198/93 (pr) // Holotypus / Calisius male / pallipes Stål 1873 (err.!) / E.Heiss 1993 det. (red label, pr & hw) // Naturhistoriska / Riksmuseet / Stockholm / Loan no 727/06 (green label, pr) // Tarsi of left legs and right hind leg missing, scutellum damaged by pinhole as the specimen was originally pinned. This is the only recorded specimen so far, however three females sharing structure and coloration of the male are considered conspecific representing the opposite sex.
2 females labelled: Argentina / Iguazu waterfall area / 24 VIII 2000 E.Heiss // ( CEHI);
1 female labelled: Limay, Parag. / Alto Paraná / 24/ 26-Oct-1989 / leg. Arriagada // ( CEHI).
Redescription. Male. Holotype. Elongate oval, body with coarse granulation and tubercles; general color fuscous-ochraceous, X-shaped pattern on anterior scutellum, apex and intermediate tubercles along the lateral margins of scutellum and connexivum darker brown.
Head. Slightly longer than wide (31/29); clypeus densely beset with roundish tubercles forming a double row dorsally, apex truncate with larger tubercles reaching basal 1/3 of antennal segment III; antenniferous lobes acute, lateral margins sub-parallel; antennae slender, about as long as width of head, segments I+II cylindrical and of subequal length, III longer and more slender tapering toward base, IV longest and fusiform with pilose apex but without round whitish plaques; eyes oval, inserted in head; post-ocular lobes with a lateral acute tubercle surpassing outer margin of eyes, then rounded converging posteriorly to constricted neck; vertex with a double row of tubercles at middle, laterally depressed, raised and tuberculate along inner margin of eyes. Rostrum arising from an open atrium, shorter than head, rostral groove with carinate lateral margins, closed posteriorly.
Pronotum. Trapezoidal, more than twice as wide as long (58/25); lateral margins coarsely tuberculate on humeri, somewhat constricted and converging to anterolateral angles, beset with cluster of 6–7 larger tubercles; disk raised posteriorly with 4 longitudinal rows of erect tubercles, median ones longer, reaching to anterior margin, shorter lateral ones adjacent to transverse impression; basal tubercles of all 4 rows fuscous, apical and preapical tubercle of median rows larger and whitish; posterior margin sinuate.
Scutellum. Distinctly longer than wide (61/45); basal triangular elevation with coarse granulation and 4 larger spicules overlapping pronotum; lateral oblique carinae join granulate lateral margins of scutellum, basal half notched for reception of costal part of corium; margin along corium beset with 6–7 larger erect fuscous tubercles; median carina with spaced round tubercles, apex of scutellum with a row of smaller fuscous tubercles; surface of disk deeply punctured.
Hemelytra. Covered by large scutellum, exposed is only a small granulate portion of corium which extends to ½ of deltg IV.
Abdomen. Tergal disk completely obscured by scutellum, separated from connexivum by carina beset with row of tubercles consisting of about 6 tubercles on deltg II–VI, posterior one is larger and whitish, 3 anterior ones smaller and fuscous; connexivum moderately reflexed, lateral margins with double row of 3–4 larger blunt tubercles on each deltg (epipleurites, Sweet 2006) and vltg (the spiracle bearing hypopleurites), anterior 1–2 fuscous; deltg II–VII separated by sutures, surface with scale-like flat tubercles; tergite VII medially raised for reception of pygophore, posteriorly followed by narrow transverse sclerite representing tergite VIII.
Venter. Without granulation, sterna II+III fused, III–VIII separated by sutures; metapleura without distinct scent gland opening in front of hind coxae, narrow pit is discernible; exposed sternum VIII large and rounded anteriorly, posterolateral edges thickened consisting of few fused tubercles, one bearing spiracle VIII which is visible in dorsal view; spiracles II–IV ventral anterior to apodemes (glabrous spots), V ventral but closer to lateral margin, VI and VII lateral placed on anterior most and larger tubercle of lower row, visible from above.
Pygophore. Transversely oval in caudal view, with a double longitudinal row of whitish granules; narrow tergite VIII dorsally, crescent shaped sternite VIII ventrally exposed.
Legs. Short, trochanters distinct, femora moderately incrassate, tibiae cylindrical, tarsi two-segmented, claws with pad-like pulvilli.
Measurements. Male. Length 3.65mm; length of antennae 0.74; ratio length of antennae / width of head 1.01; ratio head length/width 1.07; ratio pronotum w/l 2.32; ratio scutellum l/ w1.59; width of abdomen 1.73; length antennal segments I/II/III/IV = 5/6/8.5/10.
Female. Structure as of male, excluding but the:
larger size, abdomen wider and more rounded
X-shaped pattern of scutellum more prominent because of more whitish color of disk
basally exposed carina between apex of scutellum and tergite VII with a transverse row of three whitish tubercles (narrower and obliterating in male)
tergite VIII not exposed dorsally, ptg VIII formed by a cluster of tubercles bearing spiracles VIII, lateral of posteriorly projecting truncate tergites IX and X.
Measurements. Female. Length 4.0; length of antennae 0.7; ratio length of antennae / width of head 0.97; ratio head length/width1.13; ratio pronotum w/l 2.19; ratio scutellum l/ w1.63; width of abdomen 2.0; length antennal segments I/II/III/IV = 5/6/8/9
