4. Viburnum ternatum Rehder (1907: 37)

Type:— CHINA. Sichuan: Minjiang River , 1.5–4m high, shrub, branches grayish brown, branchlets appressed-pubescent, June 1903, E. H. Wilson 3736 [lectotype A ( A00031587 )! ( Fig. 1-D View FIGURE 1 ) here designated, isolectotype A ( A00031586 )!]. Residual syntypes:— CHINA. Sichuan: without precise locality, June1903, E. H. Wilson 3736a [ P ( P00644626 )!, K ( K000797919 )!, K ( K000797920 )!] .

Two gatherings, E. H. Wilson 3736 & E. H. Wilson 3736 a, were listed in the protologue ( Rehder 1907). Five sheets of the two gatherings were found in three different herbaria, only the one we designated as the lectotype has flowers and fruits, while the others do not. This species was initially described from Sichuan and it occurs in Hubei, Hunan, Guizhou and Yunnan ( Hsu 1988). It is very rare in Viburnum to have leaves in whorls of three, or opposite each other on the weak branches.
