Type Locality: E North Atlantic ("Oceano Europaeo").

Vernacular Names: Short-beaked Common Dolphin.

Subspecies: :

Subspecies Delphinus delphis subsp. delphis Linnaeus 1758

Subspecies Delphinus delphis subsp. ponticus Barabash 1935

Distribution: Worldwide: temperate and tropical waters, including the Black Sea.

Conservation: CITES – Appendix II; IUCN – Lower Risk (lc), except for Mediterranian subpopulation, which is Endangered.

Discussion: See Heyning and Perrin (1991, 1994). Rice (1998:112) recognized D. d. ponticus (Black Sea Common Dolphin).
