Differential Diagnosis. The absence of pale anterolateral corners of the pronotum distinguish this species from all others in the region except O. sharpi which is easily separated by the setiferous dorsal punctation.

Description. Size and Form. Length=2.9–3.4. EL/EW=1.12. Form oval, moderately convex. Elytra slightly longer than wide. Color. Dorsum black. Without distinct iridescence. Maxillary and labial palpi yellow. Mentum and stipes yellow to light brown, lighter than venter of head. Pronotum entirely black, without pale spots anterolaterally. Sternum brown. Legs light brown to brown. Epipleura and pseudoepipleura yellow to light brown. Ventrites brown, with slightly paler patches laterally. Head. Punctation on frons, clypeus and labrum moderately fine, distance between punctures 1– 2 x width of one puncture, slightly denser anteriorly on clypeus. Scape subequal in length to slightly longer than segments 2–5, segment 2 equal in length to segments 3–5, segments 3 and 4 equal in length; segments 6 and 7 subequal in length with apical segment slightly longer. Maxillary palpi slightly shorter than width of labrum; segments 2 and 3 subequal with apical segment slightly longer. Labial palpi 2/3 to ¾ length of mentum; apical two segments subequal in length. Labrum and clypeus without detectable systematic punctures. Frons with irregular row of systematic punctures mesad of each eye. Mentum quadrate, anterior margin slightly convex; with sparse punctures. Thorax. Dorsal punctation of pronotum moderately fine, slightly more impressed on elytra,, uniform in size; distance between punctures 2– 3 x the width of one puncture. Posterolateral corners of pronotum rounded. Lateral margin of pronotum with row of punctures bearing short setae; anterior and posterior series of systematic punctures present, bearing recumbent setae; slightly larger than but largely obscured by general punctation. Sutural punctation of elytra extremely fine, dense; not bearing setae. Rows of punctures present but similar in size to surrounding punctation; distinguished by sparse recumbent to suberect setae. Lateral margin of elytra with row of setiferous punctures, more dense in posterior half and appearing as a short yellow fringe. Prosternum carinate medially, with two spines anteromedially; spines longer than narrowest width of prosternum. Mesosternal process slightly longer than wide; with five spines, two positioned at apex of process, two on distolaterally, and one near center of process.

Metasternum with elongateoval glabrous area posteromedially, about as long as wide; less than half the length of metasternum. Procoxae densely pubescent and bearing several distinct spines. Protibia with 5–7 spines on dorsal face. Protarsal segments 1–4 small, subequal in length; segment 5 as long as segments 1–4. Hind femora glabrous. Abdomen. Ventrites sparsely pubescent; setae equal to or longer in length to longest setae around margin of metasternal glabrous area, most suberect. Fifth exposed ventrite entire. Aedeagus ( Fig. 18 View FIGURES 16 – 19 ) with ventral sides of parameres distinctly sinuate, broader than dorsal sides basally; tips distinctly curved inwards. Tip of median lobe bifid, rising almost to apex of parameres. Basal piece tapered to slightly narrowed basally, rounded.

Distribution. Costa Rica.

Etymology. Funestus . L, causing death or calamity. Named after the type locality, at which the senior author was caught in a flash flood while attempting to collect specimens.
