Mesostenus dentifer Thomson, 1896

Material examined: 1♀, IRAN, North Khorasan Province, Jemi (37°31′19′′N, 57°29′28′′E, 915 m), Malaise trap, 09– 23.07.2015, leg.: B. Motamedinia ; 1♀, IRAN, Kerman Province, Bam, Abgarm (29°07′55″N, 58°17′09″E, 1132 m), swept on Alopecurus sp. , 03.08.2015, leg.: M. Vafaei.

Distribution in Iran: Kerman and North Khorasan Provinces.

General distribution: Palaearctic ( Austria, France, Georgia, Germany, Hungary, Iran [new record], Italy, Norway, Romania, Spain, Sweden) ( Yu et al. 2016).

Diagnosis (Female). Body length 9.5–9.7 mm, fore wing length 7–7.1 mm, ovipositor 4.7–4.8 mm. Malar space 0.85 × as long as basal width of the mandible. Frons weakly convex and strongly striate ( Fig. 3A ). Behind the eyes not long (0.37 × as long as eyes), curved and weakly narrowed laterally, in dorsal view ( Fig. 3B ). Temple constricted behind the eye, 0.5 × as width as the eye in lateral view ( Fig. 3C ). Notaulus distinct ( Fig. 3D ). Mesoscutum polished, strongly punctate. Propodeum ( Fig. 3E ) with basal transverse carinae entire. Apical transverse carinae of propodeum present. First metasomal segment ( Fig. 3F ) rather strongly widened to its apex, with a lateral triangular tooth basally. Postpetiole strongly convex in lateral view. Second tergite densely punctate. Fore wing ( Fig. 3G ) vein r-m present. Areolet small and irregular. Vein 1m-cu 2.2 × as long as 1/Cu. Hind wing ( Fig. 3H ) with 1/Cu longer than cu-a. Ovipositor 1.6 × as long as hind tibia and weakly down-curved ( Fig. 3I ). Body black; frontal orbit, tegula yellowish, fore femur and tibia, mid femur and tibia, hind femur apically and first to third tergites reddish. Hind femur basally black. Antenna with white stripe on fifth to eighth flagellomeres.
