Lectotype (James in Brittonia 8: 226. 1956): Clayton 227 (BM-000042221).

Generitype of Rhexia Linnaeus (vide Hitchcock, Prop. Brit. Bot.: 149. 1929).

Current name: Rhexia virginica L. ( Melastomataceae ).

Note: Although Griscom (in Rhodora 37: 171. 1935) claimed to have studied the type, he gave no indication of which element this might be. James’ choice is accepted here.
