Type species. Trichiosomites obliviosus Brues, 1908 .

Emended diagnosis. Distinct from other Abiinae by its very wide pterostigma and second flagellar segment forming the first part of the club.

Remarks. Trichiosomites obliviosus fits well with the Abiinae . Its distinctly segmented club excludes Corynidinae and Pachylostictinae , and widely separated anal cells exclude Cimbicinae . It is the oldest representative of the subfamily.
