Comparative notes. Morvan described Pseudopedius iranicus in 1974 ( Fig. 6 View FIGURE 6 ). Subsequently, Pseudopedius Seidlitz, 1887 was synonymized with Ancholeus Dejean, 1828 and P. iranicus was listed by Bousquet, 2017 as Poecilus (Ancholeus) iranicus . Morvan mentioned in the description of this species that antennomere 3 is not keeled. Species of the subgenus Ancholeus are characterized by the presence of a keel on antennomere 3, while species of the related subgenus Derus Motschulsky, 1850 are characterized by the absence of this keel. A comparison of a paratype of P. iranicus with P. (Derus) advena showed no difference between these taxa, hence P. iranicus is synonymous with P. advena .
Distribution. Transcaucasia, the Southern Russian Plain, Ciscaucasia, the uplands of Armenia, the plains of Kazakhstan, and the plains of Middle Asia to the Altais-Sayan Mt. Land. ( Kryzhanovskij et al. 1995). The species also occurs in Ukraine and Georgia, both countries were not mentioned in Löbl & Löbl 2017.
