Type material examined. Eysarcoris latus Walker : LECTOTYPE (sex?), by present designation: „ TYPE ” [red square, printed]; „ Eysarcoris \ latus \ Formosa ” [Walker’s handwriting]; „ HOLOTYPE \ T-20187 \ Eysarcoris \ latus \ Walker” [red square, printed + handwritten]; „ LECTOTYPUS \ Eysarcoris latus \ Walker, 1868 \ des. Pinned; segments III–IV of left, segments IIa–IV of right antenna, tarsal segments II–III of left fore and right mid legs, tarsus of left hind leg, right hind leg, and abdomen missing ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 3 ). — Eysarcoris pustulatus Walker : LECTOTYPE (♀), by present designation: „ TYPE ” [red square, printed]; „ Eysarcoris \ pustulatus \ Formosa ” [Walker’s handwriting]; „ HOLOTYPE \ T-20188 \ Eysarcoris \ pustulatu[s] \ Walker” [red square, printed + handwritten]; „ LECTOTYPUS \ Eysarcoris pustulatus \ Walker, 1868 \ des. Pinned; segment IV of right antenna, tibia and tarsus of left fore leg, tarsus of right mid leg, femora, tibiae, and tarsi of left mid leg, and both hind legs missing ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1 – 3 ).
Discussion. The examined syntype of E. latus ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 3 ) is missing the abdomen, and that of E. pustulatus ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1 – 3 ) is a female. However, we directly compared the holotypes to specimens of several species of Eysarcoris occurring in Taiwan and the neighbouring areas, and we are fully convinced that both of Walker’s species are conspecific with E. guttigerus [male genitalia of this species were figured by Josifov and Kerzhner (1978)]. This well-known species is widely distributed all over the Oriental Region and the temperate East Asia, and it is frequent in Taiwan too.
Walker noted the similarity between pustulatus and guttigerus , but he regarded the sculpture of the pronotum and the size of the basal callosities of the scutellum as of specific importance. By direct comparison of the examined syntype of pustulatus to several specimens of guttigerus , no significant difference could be observed in the sculpture of the pronotum. In addition, in several specimens of guttigerus examined by us, the size of the basal callosities of the scutellum shows considerable intraspecific variability from well developed to almost missing.
