Rhagovelia turmalis Nieser & Melo, 1997 View in CoL
Rhagovelia turmalis was described and has been known only from the type-material collected on Serra do Cipó mountain range, Minas Gerais (Moreira 2012). New material has recently been collected in a stream near the typelocality.
Both R. turmalis View in CoL and R. trianguloides View in CoL have gone through taxonomic confusion, caused by the delayed publication of Nieser and Polhemus (1999). These authors intended to describe the two species and also R. ochroischion Nieser & Melo, 1997 View in CoL and R. sbolos Nieser & Melo, 1997 View in CoL , but while their article was in press, the guide to the water bugs of Minas Gerais by Nieser & Melo (1997) was published. Keys, illustrations, and type-localities were mentioned for these species in their guide, which must be considered the first description of the species according to the rules of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature for publications prior to the year 2000. This issue was explained in detail and corrected by Moreira et al. (2010) and Nemésio and Melo (2012). Despite not being the original description, the work of Nieser and Polhemus (1999) should be consulted when studying these species, because the paper contains much more detailed information than does Nieser and Melo (1997).
Examined material. BRAZIL: Minas Gerais – Santana do Riacho, Alto da Boa Vista , stream, 18.I.2009, (D. Takiya): 4 apterous males, 5 apterous females ( DZRJ) .
Rhagovelia vaniniae Moreira, Nessimian & Rúdio, 2010 View in CoL
This species was recently described from Espírito Santo State, and later recorded from Rio de Janeiro ( Moreira et al. 2012). It is herein recorded for the first time from Minas Gerais State.
Examined material. BRAZIL: Minas Gerais – Lima Duarte, stream between Lima Duarte and Ibitipoca, dirt road after bridge before bifurcation Ibitipoca / Mogol , 26.X.2011, (J. F. Barbosa): 3 males with broken wings, 1 macropterous female, 1 female with broken wings ( DZRJ) .
