Ficus eugeniifolia (Liebm.) Hemsl., Biol. Cent. View in CoL -Amer., Bot. iii. 144.1883
≡ Urostigma eugeniifolium Liebm., Vidensk. Selsk. Skr. V. ii. 329. 1851.
Lectotype (designated here): — COSTA RICA. Ujaras , February 1847, Ørsted 14311 (C-10015345!; isolectotypes: C-10014344!, C-10014346!).
Nomenclatural notes:— The protologue does not mention the collector number or the herbarium where Ørsted’s collection was deposited. Berg (2007b) cited Ørsted 14311 ( C) as the holotype ; however, this cannot be considered a lectotypification because it occurred after 2001 and “designated here” or similar phrase was not used ( Turland et al. 2018, Art. 7.11). In addition, there are three duplicates of Øersted 14311 in the Copenhagen herbarium ( C). Therefore, we designate C-10015345 as the lectotype because it is more complete and its leaves are non-degraded .
Taxonomical notes:— The currently accepted name for this taxon is Ficus americana subsp. americana .
