status

Ficus maitin Pittier, Bol. Soc. Venez. Ci. Nat. View in CoL 4, no. 30: 73. 1937.

Lectotype (designated here): — VENEZUELA. Mérida, alrededores de Tabay, 17 October 1930, W.Gehriger 450 ( VEN!; isolectotypes: G!, PH! US!).

Nomenclatural notes:— The protologue does not state the name of the herbarium where the type of F. maitin was deposited. Berg (2007b) cited the specimen Gehriger 450 (VEN) as the holotype; however, this cannot be considered a lectotypification because it was published after 2001 and “designated here” or similar phrase was not used ( Turland et al. 2018, Art. 7.11). Here, we designate Gehriger 450 (VEN) as lectotype because it contains a well-preserved branch with leaves, syconia, and stipules.

Taxonomical notes:— The currently accepted name for this taxon is Ficus americana subsp. andicola .
