status

Ficus aureo-brunnea Pittier, Bol. Soc. Venez. Ci. Nat. View in CoL 4(30): 78. 1937.

Lectotype (designated here): — VENEZUELA. Distrito Federal, La Quesera, arriba de Caracas, 6 May 1917, Pittier 7133 (GH-34503!; isolectotypes: G!, P!, US!, VEN!).

Nomenclatural notes:— The protologue does not state the herbarium where the type of F. aureo-brunnea was deposited. Berg (2009) was the first to consider the specimen Pittier 7133 ( VEN) as the holotype ; this could be considered a lectotypification but occurred after 2001 without using “designated here” or a similar phrase (see Turland et al. 2018, Art. 7.11). Here, we chose Pittier 7133 (GH-34503) as the lectotype because it contains a branch, leaves, stipules, peduncles, and syconia. Pittier 7133 ( VEN) does not have syconia .

Taxonomical notes:— The currently accepted name for this taxon is Ficus schippii .
