Remarks. Neolucanus aterrimus ( Figs. 1–2 View FIGURES 1 – 11. 1 ) was previously known from the original description and an illustration of a male by Krajcik (2003). The species has many morphological and genitalic similarities with Neolucanus montanus ( Figs. 3–4 View FIGURES 1 – 11. 1 ) as follows: 1) Mandibles: shorter than head, the upper margins without small tooth, the lower margin with four small teeth. 2) Head: almost square, vertex with a triangular concave medially. Males canthi are almost rectangle and female canthi are semicircle. 3) Pronotum: almost trapezoidal, medial disc is slightly convex. 4) Elytra: slightly round, distinctly concave near the margin. 5) Legs: all the legs are very similar, with almost identical number of small teeth along the tibiae. 6) Genitalia: male genitalia very similar ( Figs.7–8 View FIGURES 1 – 11. 1 ), the aedeagus is almost same shape, internal sac permanently everted, stout and long, twice as long as the total length of paramere and phallobase; the apex of parameres are blunt. Female genitalia ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 1 – 11. 1 ) with shape of hemisternites similar; 3/4 part of hemisternites are peanut-like anteriorly and 1/4 part of hemisternites are thin and strut-like posteriorly. 6) Locality: found in the same locality, Mount Ginfushan (old name is Kinfu shan, present name is Mt. Jinfoshan), Sichuan Province, China. We here place these two names in synonymy.
