[[ Genus Pterolebias Garman View in CoL View at ENA ZBK ]]
Phylogenetic analysis. The present phylogenetic analysis is based on both a reexamination of previously reported morphological characters, plus several not previously used, for a total of 93 characters (see Appendix 2) that are included in the data matrix (Appendix 3).
Two most parsimonious cladograms were found (tree length = 211, CI = 0.57, RI = 0.67), differing only in the position of the clade { T. rubromarginatus ZBK + N. paraguayensis }, which is the sister group of the clade { R. stellifer { P. compacta { A. transilis ZBK { R. maculipinnis + T. dolichopterus }}}} plus {{{ A. boticarioi ZBK + M. apurinan ZBK } { M. xiphophora + R. oscari ZBK }} {{ G. hoignei + G. zonatus } { P. longipinnis ZBK + P. phasianus ZBK }}} or the sister group only of {{{ A. boticarioi ZBK + M. apurinan ZBK } { M. xiphophora + R. oscari ZBK }} {{ G. hoignei + G. zonatus } { P. longipinnis ZBK + P. phasianus ZBK }}}. Figure 1 illustrates the strict consensus tree (three length = 211, CI = 0.57, RI = 0.67).
