"Habitat in Oceano Aethiopico e profundissimo mari saepe enatans insulasque quasi formans. Koenig, mss. 42." RCN: 8318.

Neotype (Irvine in Spencer & al. in Taxon, in press): W. Falkland Islands. King George’s Sound, Oct 1910, Mrs Elinor Vallentin (BM-000840161).

Current name: Macrocystis pyrifera (L.) C. Agardh ( Lessoniaceae).

Note: Although Womersley (in Univ. Calif. Publ. Bot. 27: 113. 1954) discussed possible type material in LINN, the only collection associated with this name is unannotated by Linnaeus and is not original material.
