Type Locality: "des environs des îles Falckland ou Malouines" [Falkland Isls ( UK)].

Vernacular Names: Leopard seal.

Synonyms: Hydrurga homei (Lesson 1828) ; Hydrurga leptonyz (de Blainville 1820) .

Distribution: Circumpolar pack-ice zone south to the shores of Antarctica. Also coastal regions of Australia, Chile, Falkland Isls, Kerguelen Isls, New Zealand), South Sandwich Isls, South Africa.

Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).

Discussion: Synonyms allocated according to Cabrera (1957).
