Forty-three species of the genus are recorded from the Afrotropical Region (Pont 1980), only one is recorded from Namibia: N. splendida (Adams, 1905) ( Bezzi 1908: 191, Kubub and Aar, as Pyrellia boersiana (Bigot, 1877) ; Zielke 1971 a: 175, Otjiwarongo, Farm Abechaus). For generic diagnoses see Couri et al. (2006), Emden (1939) and Zielke (1971 c). Neomyia splendida was found among the material examined here.
