Genus Limnophora Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 View in CoL View at ENA
Limnophora View in CoL is another species-rich Afrotropical muscid genus, with 76 described species (Pont 1980; Couri et al. 2006). See Couri et al. (2006) for generic diagnosis.Three species are recorded from Namibia: L. quaterna (Loew, 1852) View in CoL (Emden 1951: 409, “S.W. Africa”, as L. notabilis Stein View in CoL in Becker 1903; Emden 1956: 517, “S.W.Africa”, as L. notabilis View in CoL ; Lindner 1976: 79, Ongeama, as L. notabilis View in CoL ); L. simulans Stein, 1913 View in CoL ( Lindner 1976: 79, Ongeama); L. thomasseti Emden, 1951 View in CoL (Emden 1951: 423, Hoffnung).
None of the three recorded species was found among the studied material. Limnophora obsignata (Rondani, 1866) View in CoL is newly recorded for Namibia.
