Lectotype (designated here):— BRAZIL. São Paulo : Alto da Serra , Mata da Estação Biológica, serra do Cubatão, 2 September 1921 (fl.), F. C. Hoehne s.n. Nomenclatural notes:— Hoehne (1925) described Aristolochia paulistana based on a single collection, made in the Estação Ecológica do Alto da Serra, currently the Reserva Biológica do Alto da Serra de Paranapiacaba, municipality of Santo André, in the state of São Paulo. This specimen was cultivated at Horto Oswaldo Cruz, where it set flowers in 01/February/1923; this cultivated specimen was also used by Hoehne (1925) to describe the new species. There are at least eight duplicates of the original collection, from which Hoehne (1925) did not designate a holotype. We designate here the specimen deposited in SP as the lectotype, because most of Hoehne’s scientific career was linked to this institution, and because this specimen bears all the diagnostic traits of the species, including three entire flowers in excellent state of conservation.
