Type Locality: Brazil, Amazonas, between Solimões River and Iça River.

Distribution: W Brazil, Peru, south of Amazon-Solimoes-Marañon, between lower Rio Huallaga and Rio Madeira.
Conservation: CITES – Appendix II; IUCN – Least Concern.
Discussion: S. mystax species group. See Hershkovitz (1977:700); but does not include pileatus (see Groves, 2001 c:143-4).
