Microzygops Champion, 1906 View in CoL
Champion based his genus on the following combination of characters: “very long, slender legs, unarmed posterior femora, exserted head, cylindrical constricted prothorax, large eyes, deeply excavate anterior portion of the metasternum, &c.” (see also Anzaldo 2017). The character of unarmed metafemora is variable, with some individuals possessing a short, acute tooth, some with only a tiny bump, and some lacking a tooth altogether. Variation also occurs in size and basic coloration. Although long, slender legs, unarmed metafemora, and an excavate metasternum are found in other conoderine genera, notably Pseudolechriops Champion, 1906 ( Hespenheide and LaPierre 2006), the combination of all these characters produces an unusual overall habitus. Microzygops is not obviously closely related to any other conoderine genus, and its relationships await genetic analysis.
