Type species: Botyodes asialis Guenée, 1854 subsequently designated by Moore, ([1886] 1884–7)
Diagnostic characters: Antennae of male with four teeth on the basal joint enclosing a hollow; mid femora with a small grooved tuft at middle ( Hampson 1896). In male genitalia, base of uncus is quadra-radiated, tegumen is strongly modified for the attachment of quadra-radiated base of uncus; valvae with transparent windows, costa strongly indented at middle.
Remarks: Out of the 10 known species of Botyodes , the type species, B. asialis ( Figs. 1, 2 View FIGURES 1–6 , 11–14 View FIGURES 11–18 , 29 View FIGURES 29–32 ) along with B. principalis ( Figs. 3, 4 View FIGURES 1–6 , 15–18 View FIGURES 11–18 , 30 View FIGURES 29–32 ) are true members of this genus. A new genus, Neobotyodes gen. nov. is erected here for crocopteralis . The rest of seven species are in need of a future thorough review.
