Neharpyrhynchus trochilinus ( Fain, 1972)

( Fig. 74 View FIGURE 74 E, F–76)

Harpyrhynchus (Neharpyrhynchus) trochilinus Fain, 1972: 55 (type in IRSNB, examined). Neharpyrhynchus trochilinus, Fain 1995: 80 , figs. 17–23; Martinu et al. 2008: 207, fig. 1.

Additional material. Three females ( OSAL 0 0 83150, 0 0 83152, 0083153) from Archilochus alexandri (Bourcier and Mulsant) ( Apodiformes : Trochilidae ), North America, other data absent. All specimens in OSAL.

Hosts and distribution. Hummingbirds ( Apodiformes : Trochilidae ) in North and South America: “Hummingbird” (original description) and Chrysolampis mosquitus (Linnaeus) from unknown locality in South America ( Fain 1972, 1995), Panterpe insignis Cabanis and Heine and Eugenes fulgens (Swainson) from Costa Rica, Amazilia lactea (Lesson) from Brazil and Peru ( Bochkov & Literak 2011; Literak et al. 2012), Amazilia chionogaster (Tschudi) from Peru ( Literak et a l. 2012), Chlorostilbon lucidus (Shaw) from Paraguay ( Literak et al. 2014), Archilochus alexandri [new host] from unknown locality in North America (present paper).

Remark. In the original description of this species, Fain (1995, P. 79) indicated that the female dorsal shield is “deeply excavated along midline” and depicted the median suture crossing this shield in Fig. 17 View FIGURE 17 . Actually, this fold is an artifact which appears very often in the process of specimen mounting. The same mistake was made by Martinu et al. (2008) in the description of the closely related species N. bochkovi ( Fig. 74 View FIGURE 74 C, D).
