scientific name

Cristatodens
status

Genus Cristatodens nov.

Type species: Cristatodens sigmoidalis sp. nov.

Derivation of the name: Latin cristatus = crested, dens = tooth.

Diagnosis.—Teeth with euselachian bases and crowns composed of almost completely fused cusps forming a crest, decreasing laterally. Lingual side of the crown convex and smooth, labial side slightly concave or straight, crenulated at the base.

The upper part of the crown is slightly similar to that of Venustodus St. John and Worthen, 1875 , but it lacks concentric growth lines, typical of the latter genus and other petalodontiforms.
