The advena View in CoL -group

The preferred tree of our cladistic analysis suggests the sister-group relationship between the decorata and advena . They share the following synapomorphies: the dorsally directed apico-dorsal lobe on the TA (Ch. 79, state 1) and the rebordered posterior margin of the epigyne (Ch. 93, state 2). The indented posterior margin of the sternum is homoplasious (Ch. 28, state 1).

The advena -group and the decorata -group include males with the TA carrying a bifid apical process and the pronounced apico-prolateral and baso-prolateral folds. However, the broad flange on the conductor is restrict to the advena -group and not possessed by any other groups. In the males of the advena -group, the embolus is thick and provided with a dorsal flange, the tegular spine is represented by an elevated ridge, the dorsal pattern on the opisthosoma is absent and the PVS are cylindrical, whereas in those of the decorata -group the embolus is filiform, the tegular spine is prominent and the PVS are short and stout. Females have a rebordered epigynal plate that is protruding over an epigastric furrow but can be differentiated by the simple spermathecal duct system in the advena - group instead of strongly convoluted ducts as in the decorata -group.
