Mallinella septemmaculata Ono, 2004a: 5 View in CoL , figs 9–12, description of ♀

Remarks. Mallinella septemmaculata appears to belong to this group on the basis of the female internal genitalia. It is distinguished from other Mallinella species by the rectangular epigynal plate lacking an anterior median incision.

Distribution. Vietnam.

Other species included: Mallinella sylvatica ( van Hove & Bosmans, 1984) ; M. etindei ( van Hove & Bosmans, 1984) ; M. cameroonensis ( van Hove & Bosmans, 1984) ; M. inflata (Bosmans & van Hove, 1986) ; M. selecta (Pavesi, 1895) ; M. langping Zhang & Zhu, 2009 ; M. okinawaensis Tanikawa, 2005 ; M. hoosi (Kishida, 1935) ; M. fulvipes ( Ono & Tanikawa, 1990) ; M. sadamotoi ( Ono & Tanikawa, 1990) ; M. nomurai Ono, 2003 (Figs 1248–1256).

Males of the African species listed below bear a well-developed apico-retrolateral fold or a transverse mesal ridge on the TA of the male palp. They can be distinguished from all members of the fronto -group by the small apex of the TA lacking an apical modification instead of having a bifid apical process: Mallinella mbamensis (Bosmans & van Hove, 1986) ; M. scutata Strand, 1906 ; M. manengoubensis (Bosmans & van Hove, 1986) ; M. okuensis (Bosmans & van Hove, 1986) .

The African and Asian species listed below share similar characters of the TA on the male palp. They apparently belong to this group although interspecific variation to some extent occurs. The TA is represented by a large but relatively slender apical process pointing mesad, a well-developed meso-retrolateral fold, and an elevated basoprolateral ridge/tooth: Mallinella monticola ( van Hove & Bosmans, 1984) ; M. albomaculata ( Bosmans & Hillyard, 1990) ; M. debeiri (Bosmans & van Hove, 1986) .

Males of the following species can be distinguished from other members of the fronto -group by possessing an elongated TA carrying a transverse mesal ridge; its apical process is bifid: Mallinella bifurcata Wang, Yin, Griswold & Peng, 2009 ; M. kunmingensis Wang, Yin, Griswold & Peng, 2009 ; M. nigra ( Bosmans & Hillyard, 1990) ; M. vandermarlierei (Bosmans & van Hove, 1986) ; M. biumbonalia Wang, Yin, Griswold & Peng, 2009 ; Mallinella labialis Song & Kim, 1997 ; Mallinella dinghu Song & Kim, 1997 ; M. hainan Song & Kim, 1997 .

Males of the following species are recognized by the elongated TA on the male palp provided with a bifid apical process and a baso-prolateral modification in the form of a sharply pointed tooth or replaced by a slightly elevated ridge. They can be distinguished by the lack of a meso- or apico-retrolateral fold: Mallinella pulchra ( Bosmans & Hillyard, 1990) ; M. kelvini ( Bosmans & Hillyard, 1990) ; M. ponikioides ( Bosmans & Hillyard, 1990) ; M. v-insignita ( Bosmans & Hillyard, 1990) ; M. kibonotensis (Bosmans & van Hove, 1986)

The two African species listed below appear to belong to this group based on the TA of the male palp provided with an obliquely transverse mesal ridge: Mallinella nyikae (Pocock, 1898) ; M. submonticola ( van Hove & Bosmans, 1984) .

Sub-group 4 accommodates species that cannot be assigned to any particular monophyletic species-group. Generally, they are recognizable by the TA of the male palp carrying a broad prolateral extension, but its apical part is not bifid and the subterminal ridge is absent. The pattern on dorsum of the opisthosoma resembles that of subgroup 3. The female internal genitalia are represented by widely separated spermathecae as also found in sub-group 1.
