Distribution:— This species is native to Mexico and Central America, but it is widely cultivated for its edible leaves and sometimes naturalized in other areas around the world ( Fernández Casas 2017).

Distribution:— Mexico.
Notes:— This subspecies can be recognized by the narrow, pinnatifid-dentate leaf lobes. Additionally, Breckon (1975) suggests that it is characterized by salverform pistillate flowers with partially fused tepals.
