Ecological notes: very common in broad-leaved and carr woodland; also found in mixed woodland; arboretum of conifers; heathland including Breckland; wetlands including floodplain and calcareous fens, floating fen, reed and sedge beds, river and lake margins, Cladium with tufa, bog and water meadows; old hedges; gravel pits; open glen with stream; grazed grassland; sand dunes; grounds of horticultural research station; parkland; gardens. At ivy and guelder rose flowers. Reared from nests of rook and coot and from the fungus Pleurotus cornucopiae on pine stump. i–xii.
