CORYNOPTERA SPOECKERI (LENGERSDORF, 1930) View in CoL

Synonym: venerata Rudzinski, 1994 .

Literature: Menzel & Heller (2005): 352 [ venerata Rudzinski as synonym to spoeckeri (Lengersdorf) ].

New to British list.

Material examined: Chigwell Row Wood, Chigwell Row , Essex, 1 male, 23.v.−27.v.2002, Ismay & Schulten leg. ( DEI) .

Ecological notes: found in ancient woodland with oak, hazel and bramble. v.

Taxonomic note: The identity of Corynoptera spoeckeri and Corynoptera venerata was only recently brought to light [comparison of types in Menzel & Heller (2005)]. Until now, it was accepted that Corynoptera spoeckeri was only known from caves and mines [areas around entrance to deeper regions]. To date, surface finds only exist from England and Germany [Bavaria: beech–spruce mixed woodland in Schöngeising].
