Taxonomic note: earlier references in the British literature [as Bradysia or Corynoptera subtilis in Freeman (1983b: 77), O’Connor & Ashe (1991: 29), Laurence (1994: 118) and Menzel (1998: 21)] referred to Corynoptera irmgardis so Corynoptera subtilis is correctly recorded here as new to the British list.
