Syntype:— KAZAKHSTAN. Semirchensk region: Pribalkhash region, sands along the river Aksu, 3 May 1909, V.N. Shnitnikov (TASH003808 [image!])

Description: —Herbs perennial. Roots subnapiform or linear tuberous, crown tomentose-lanate. Stems 15–30 cm tall, densely white pilose especially on nodes, branched above base. Basal leaves with petiole 4–8 cm, dilated at base, ovate to broadly oblong-ovate, 5–10 × 3–7 cm, white pilose, base cuneate or rounded, margin coarsely crenate, apex obtuse; stem leaves with petiolate 1–5 cm, blade 4–8 × 3–5 cm, base cuneate, margin crenate, apex acuminate. Verticillasters axillary, 2 flowered; bracts subulate, each flower with two bracts, 1.5–1.8 cm, pilose, apex acuminate. Calyx tubular, 1.8–2 cm, pilose outside; teeth broadly semicircular, 2 mm, with a rigid apical spine 3 mm. Corolla yellow, 2.6–2.8 cm; 2-lipped; posterior lip 8–9 mm long, galeate, densely tomentose outside, bearded inside; anterior lip 3-lobed, ca. 1 × 1.3 cm, middle lobe largest, obcordate, ca. 8 × 6 mm, lateral lobes ovate; tube included, rarely slightly exserted, 1.7–1.8 cm, villous annulate inside. Stamens 4, filaments slightly dilated at base, posterior 2 with short comblike-fimbriate appendages at base. Mericarps densely long-haired at apex.

Phenology: —Flowering from April to May, fruiting from June to July.

Distribution, habitat and ecology: — China and Kazakhstan; new record for China, occurring in Hoboksar Mongol Autonomous County, Habahe County and Burqin County, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. It grows on arid sandy arias, elev. 400– 600 m.
