Type locality: India, Meghalaya, Khasi Hills .
Diagnosis: Unique among the known Pronyssa species by the shiny violet blue center of the labrum and the elon- gated shape of the pronotum. The only known species in the genus with a considerably larger central macula compared to the apical macula. The largest Pronyssa species presently known: 14.8 mm compared to a maximum length of 13.5 mm in Pronyssa nodicollis Bates ( Sawada & Wiesner 1999).
Redescription. Body size: Length 14.81 mm (without labrum), width 4.39 mm. Male unknown.
Head: Width 3.59 mm. Mandibles reddish-brown with black inner teeth. Labrum longer than wide (1.94 x 1.78 mm) with three frontal and two lateral teeth; four lateral setae; violet-blue reflecting center with large brown margin. Palpi dark yellowish. Antennae extending over basal third of elytra; brown; first four antennomeres and basal 1/8 of antennomere five glabrous, rest pubescent. Clypaeus blue-green. Frons blue-green and glabrous. Orbital plates violet with two orbital setae on each side. Vertex blue-green with two small frontal transverse impressions and one large central transverse impression; laterally deeply furrowed. Genae glabrous, ventrally blue-green and smooth, dorsally violet and shallowly furrowed.
Thorax: Pronotum distinctly longer than wide (2.68 x 2.16 mm); anterior lobe considerably narrower than posterior lobe; median lobe globular; median line distinct; dorsally blue-green and shallowly furrowed, laterally blue-violet and smooth, ventrally green and smooth.
Elytra: Length 9.31 mm; elongated and slightly extended laterally; basodiscal convexity with impressions on lateral and apical margins; apex round with slightly recessed sutural spine and elongated impression; brown with a blue-green lustre, yellowish transparent laterally at apex; punctures regularly distributed, deep in anterior half, very smooth at apex, forming few transverse rows in middle of anterior half and along lateral margin in anterior third; maculation white, hu- meral macula just indicated, circular central macula convex and slightly elongated transversely, with impression at inner margin, apical macula smaller and irregularly circular.
Abdomen: Ventrites glabrous, dark brown with greenish-blue lustre; last two visible segments brownish.
Legs: Trochanters yellow; coxae brown with shiny green reflections; femora reddish-yellow at base and brown in last third; tibiae and tarsi brown with slightly darkened apices.
