[Loncheres] macrura Wagner 1842 , Arch. Naturgesch., 1: 360.

Type Locality: Brazil, Amazonas, Borba.

Vernacular Names: Long-tailed Armored Tree-rat.

Distribution: C Brazil west to N Peru and E Ecuador (see Patton et al., 2000).

Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc) as Echimys macrurus .

Discussion: Considered a large form of Makalata didelphoides by Emmons and Feer (1997) that might represent a distinct species, a hypothesis now supported by morphological and molecular evidence ( Patton et al., 2000).
