Maesa argentea var. kwangsiensis Handel-Mazzetti (1934: 4) View in CoL .
Type:— CHINA. Guangxi [Kwangsi]:? Donglan Xian [Tang-lan], elev. ca. 550 m, 23 July 1928, R. C. Ching 6542 ( W, lectotype designated by Walker 1940; isolectotypes A00025482 , CQNM0015761 About CQNM , IBSC0023132, IBSC0002692, IBSC0023132, NAS00072079, NAS00072080, PE00027723, US 00113661) .
= Maesa montana A.de Candolle (1844: 79) View in CoL .
Note:—Handel-Mazzetti (1934) cited a single gathering R. C. Ching 6542, but he did not specify the herbarium where the type specimen is deposited. Nine duplicates were traced and they are syntypes since no holotype was indicated under Art. 9.6 ( Turland et al. 2018). However, when revising the family Myrsinaceae from eastern Asia, Walker (1940) mentioned that the type was “probably in the Vienna Herbarium”. The duplicate US 00113661 bears actually a few fragments of fruits on the left and attaching a photo of a specimen marked “ex Vienna” on the right. On the top of the field label of this photo, there is handwriting of Handel-Mazzetti as “ Maesa argentea var. n. kwangsiensis Hand. -Mzt.” Walker (1940) inadvertently achieved the lectotypification.
