Type Locality: Argentina, Mendoza Prov., Punta de Vacas, 3,000 m.
Vernacular Names: Mendozan Chinchilla Rat.
Distribution: Known only from the type locality ( Braun and Mares, 2002), although Thomas (1921 e) and Cabrera (1961) extended the distribution to NW Mendoza Prov. and SW San Juan Prov., respectively.
Discussion: Ellerman (1940) considered vaccarum a subspecies of cinerea but Braun and Mares (2002) recognized it as distinct.
