Female. General integument yellow ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ), except for dark-brown tibiae, antennae ( Fig. 1A, 1F View FIGURE 1 ) and light-brown elytra ( Fig. 1-A View FIGURE 1 ). Antennae, femora and tibiae ( Fig. 1F View FIGURE 1 ) sparsely punctate and coarse. Punctures denser and coarser on elytra.
Pronotal disc with two dorsal gibbosities ( Fig. 1E View FIGURE 1 ). Surface of body covered with yellowish setae, denser and longer on prothorax, sparse on antennae, elytra, and abdomen.
Head. 1.4 times wider than long. Distance between antennal tubercles 1.5 times length of scape ( Fig. 1B View FIGURE 1 ). Distance between upper eye lobes 1.25 times length of scape; distance between lower eye lobes 0.8 times length of scape in frontal view. Length of upper eye lobe 0.2 times length of scape. Genae 0.46 times as long as largest width of lower eye lobe. Labial palpomere IV 1.6 times longer than I, 1.05 times longer than II, and 1.25 times longer than III. Labial palpomere III 1.29 times longer than I, and 0.84 times longer than II. Labial palpomere IV cup-shaped, wider at apex. Antennae surpassing elytral apex, at level of eighth antennomere; antennomeres, from VII to X, with projection at inner apex, from short and rounded to sub-acute and elongate (apex of projection at most reaches basal third of next antennomere); antennomere XI oval. Antennal formula (ratio) based on antennomere III (excluding projections of antennomeres VII– X): scape= 0.39; pedicel=0.13; IV=0.60; V=0.47; VI=0.35; VII=0.27; VIII=0.23; IX=0.23; X=0.23 and XI=0.41. Dorsal and ventral outer surface of antennomeres with punctures.
Thorax. Pronotum 1.9 times wider than long, with a triangular anterior depression ( Fig. 1D, 1E View FIGURE 1 ). Disc with two lateral spiniform projections. Scutellum 1.75 times wider than long ( Fig. 1E View FIGURE 1 ), without setae but with abundant punctures. Prosternal process width 1.5 times length of prosternum. Prosternal process narrowed at base and widened posteriorly ( Fig. 1C View FIGURE 1 ), 2.1 times longer than wide, with apical margin rounded. Mesosternal process quadrate at base and very narrow at apex ( Fig. 1C View FIGURE 1 ).
Elytra. Dehiscent almost from base, extending to posterior margin of ventrite IV ( Fig. 1A View FIGURE 1 ), with outer apical margins rounded.
Legs. Apex of metafemora reaching posterior margin of ventrite IV ( Fig. 1A View FIGURE 1 ). Mesotarsomere I ( Fig. 1G View FIGURE 1 ) 1.8 times longer than II, and 1.5 times longer than III; mesotarsomere V 1.68 times longer than I; tarsomeres II and III with dense ventral setal pad.
Abdomen. Ventrite IV 2.35 times wider than long; ventrite V 2.35 times wider than long. Ventrite V subtrapezoidal, with distal margin nearly straight, and emarginate medially ( Fig. 1A View FIGURE 1 ).
Dimensions in mm. Total length, 12.3; length of head, 1.6; width of head, 2.25; length of pronotum, 2.0, width of pronotum (including lateral tubercles) 3.8; elytral length, 8.5; elytral maximum width, 2.3.
Type material: Holotype female. Colombia: VALLE DEL CAUCA, Santiago de Cali, Corregimiento de Pance. Coordinates: 3.32833, -76,63861. Elevation 1100 m. Collection date: March 1980. Collector: N.N. MUSENUV code: 6825.
Etymology: The specific epithet refers to Farallones de Cali, the area where the collection locality is found. Farallones de Cali is located on the eastern slopes of the Western Andean Cordillera of Colombia ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 ).
Remarks: Oideterus farallonensis sp. nov. is included on the alternative “l” of the key by Galileo & Santos-Silva (2015): “Elytra proportionally short, not covering the fourth abdominal segment, strongly dehiscent along the suture just below the scutellum” with O. elegans and O. lobicollis . This species differs by the moderately dehiscent elytra and rounded apices. In O. elegans and O. lobicollis , the elytra are strongly dehiscent with acuminate apices. The shape of the prosternal process (narrowed at base, widened at apex), is similar to O. magnificus ; O. farallonensis sp. nov. has shorter elytra (reaching only the posterior margin of ventrite IV), whereas in O. magnificus the elytra reach the abdominal apex.
