HOLOTYPE. China. Hainan: Male [ China / Hainan /Jiansengling/750 M/ 23 March 1980 / S. Wang] ( IZAS).
PARATYPE. (1) China. male[ China / S. Kiangsi (Jiangxi)/Wongsashue/ 08 July 1936 / J. L. & M. Gressitt] ( BPBM) .
Recognition Characters. Smallsized, oval; derm piceous; scape as long as funicular segments 1–6; antennal club as long as funicular segments 5–7; mesosternal intercoxal process feeble; dorsal vestiture of mixed narrow, elongate, testaceous and short, clavate, white scales giving a salt and pepper appearance.
Description. Male: Length 3.0 mm. Width: 1.6 mm. Head: Moderatesized; punctures small, oval, glabrous; ventral of rostrum, macula of short, clavate, white scales with truncate apices; eyes large, rounded, finely faceted; frons narrow, 0.15 as wide as head across eyes, glabrous. Rostrum: Length: 1.7 mm; 0.56 as long as body; subcylinderical; three dorsal carinae extending from frons merging together before antennal insertion, elongate, oval, punctures set between the carinae; smooth beyond antennal insertion with small sparse punctures; almost straight to antennal insertion, gradually arced to apex; scrobe ventral; scape inserted in apical half. Antennae: Length: Scape 0.80 mm; Funiculus: segment one 0.2 mm, two 0.2 mm, three 0.1 mm, four 0.1 mm, five 0.1 mm, six 0.1 mm, seven 0.075 mm, club 0.3 mm; funicle 0.875 mm; scape 0.91 as long as funicle; derm fuscous; clothed with semierect testaceous setalike scales toward apex of each segment; club oval, compact, with short, fine pile, as long as funicular segments 5–7. Thorax: Length: 0.9 mm. Width: 1.2 mm; 1.75 as long as broad; dorsally base almost as broad as elytra, tapering to apical constriction; disc in lateral view slightly convex; punctures small, ridged, one or more setae like scales originating from puncture; scales on disc mixed with narrow, elongate, testaceous and short, clavate, white scales with truncate apices, laterally broader, clavate, truncate, white scales; base somewhat sinuate; mesosternal intercoxal process feeble, clothed with clavate, white scales; scutellum mediumsized, slightly longer than broad, clothed with narrow, elongate, white scales; mesepimeron dorsally clothed with dense, clavate, truncate, white scales, becoming sparser towards the venter; mesepisternum clothed with broader, clavate, truncate, white scales; metepisternum narrow, broadening apically, clothed with narrow, elongate, white scales; procoxae clothed with short, clavate, white scales. Elytra: Length: 1.5 mm. Striae narrow, rather deep, with small punctures; shallow scutellar declivity; humeri moderate, rounded; intervals broad, flat with confused pattern of narrow, elongate, testaceous and broader, clavate, white scales; disc flat in lateral view; crosshatched setae semierect not prominent and testaceous. Legs: Length of hind femur 1.5 mm; exceeds apex of abdomen by width of femoral club; tooth mediumsized; pro and mesofemoral tooth small; hind femoral base narrow broadening to moderatesized club; clothed with narrow, elongate, white scales; tibiae almost straight; metauncus small, pro and mesouncus medium as long as tarsal claw. Abdomen: Sternite 1 longer than 2 behind coxal cavity; sternite 2 ascending to 3, sternites 3 and 4 equal in length as long as 5 combined; sternite 5 with median declivity; all sternites clothed with short, clavate, white scales, becoming more elongate on sternite 5. Pygidium: Moderate , clothed with elongate, white, setalike scales. Genitalia: Median lobe of aedeagus 0.3 mm in length, 0.2 mm in width, dorsally margins narrowed basally expanding to bifurcate brush like appendages; base of aedeagal apodeme highly sclerotized 0.9 mm in length ( Figs. 80–81 View Figs ).
Distribution. China: Hainan Province, Jianfengling, 750 m, 23 March 1980, S. Wang; S. Kiangsi (Jiangxi), Wongsashue, 8 July 1936, J. L. & M. Gressitt. Remarks. This species distinct from remainder of group and can be distinguished by definitive male genitalia. Named for senior author’s son Richard.
